CHENNAI: Days after AIADMK leader J
Jayalalithaa was sworn in as Tamil Nadu chief minster, Rajya Sabha deputy chairman P J Kurien congratulated her.
In a letter, which was released by state government on Wednesday, Kurien said, “My hearty congratulations to you on your assumption as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu once again. It is indeed a moral victory for you as the judiciary has upheld the faith and trust reposed on it by the people of Tamil Nadu.”
He is the first
Congress leader to greet Jayalalithaa after her acquittal.
“I take this opportunity to wish you continued success in leading the Tamil Nadu and the nation and to realize the dreams and aspirations of the people for getting their tears wiped off and ensuring all-round progress,” he added in the letter.
The letter was released two days after the Congress-led Karnataka government had decided to challenge Jayalalithaa’s acquittal in a disproportionate assets case.
The state government has also released a letter written by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan greeting Jayalalithaa. “I am confident that under your able leadership Tamil Nadu will further prosper and you will fulfill the hopes and aspirations of people,” Mahajan wrote in her letter.
